A friend of mine posted an analogy the other day which instantly had me intrigued. Being an avid tea sipper and even more recently a coffee junkie, I could relate to the analogy quite well.
You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shaking your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee?
"Well, because someone bumped into me, of course!"
Wrong answer.
You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.
Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.
Whatever is inside the cup, will spill out.
Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you, whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled.
So, we have to ask ourselves ..."what's in my cup?"
When life gets tough, what spills over?"
It continues to shed light into having joy, gratefulness, and humility instead of anger, bitterness, harsh words and negative reactions.
Though this is a secular post, God's Word is written all over it and happens to shine on one of my favorite scriptures.
Psalm 23 says,
The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake.
Yea, thought I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.
In Psalm 23, David exclaims all of God's blessings and provisions which in return, his cup begins overflowing with gratitude, humility and praises. David was so filled with joy, it continued to pour right out of the cup God gave him. Can you imagine being so filled with love and joy you care less of the liquid running out of your cup?
It also reminds us in the closing scripture that goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life. This is endless y'all! Can you fathom unconditional and endless love? I am not sure about you but I am certain I am incapable of providing those two closing options.
After reading this scripture I am reminded God is with me, at all times. There is absolutely nothing I have to fear because my Glorious Father is with me, the Holy Spirt is with me, and the joy he provides never, ever runs out.
God continues to pour into our cup, more and more and more. The more praise, testimonies and time we spend with Him, he freely pours His sweetness into our cups.
This ensures our cup is not half full, if fact quite the contrary; it's overflowing and it will forever remain!
As noted above, in the cute little story, "What is in your cup?"
